Poker should never be a negative in your life. If you're playing with money you can't afford to lose, then poker can become a problem. In order to maintain a healthy perspective, poker games cannot become your means to pay the electric bill or credit cards that are late or overdue. If you see yourself going down a bad path, recognize this before it happens and see a professional. There is nothing wrong with not continuing poker if it becomes dangerous for you. You are not a failure; you are being responsible. If taking a break from the game is what you need in order to become healthy, then be smart, walk away and evaluate your patterns to determine if you are being compulsive or impulsive.

In this age of technology, poker is bigger than ever on the Internet. When playing online poker:

  • ALWAYS PLAY WITHIN YOUR LIMITS.
  • Be willing to lose what you have in front of you while playing your best.
  • Focus, Focus, Focus.
  • Don’t get carried away with playing too many tables; make sure you can consistently beat one game before you try to beat two.
  • If you feel you are playing badly, then stop. There will always be time to play tomorrow.
  • Avoid online casinos and sports betting.
  • Control your ego. A big ego will only cause you to lose focus on what is important. Know it if you’re a good player, but always remain humble—live or online.
